Falcons Victorian Youth Men Champions

The team which spent so much of the season searching for consistency never really found it.

Instead, they just kept getting better.

The Waverley Falcons Victorian Youth Championship Men left onlookers in no doubts on Sunday at Kilsyth as they rode a dominant second half to a resounding 26 point Grand Final win.

It was a resounding result which capped off a second half of the season which saw the Falcons recover from a chequered start, climb the table, and then take the finals series by storm.

After scored were tied at quarter time, the Falcons edged out to a five point half time lead. Coach Eric Minerve's usually potent Falcons offensive lineup turned their attention to the defensive end in the second half, holding to Cobras to 15 second half points.

It was a different sort of scoreline to what the Falcons were used to, but the 74-48 end score was their sweetest of the season.

The Falcons were led from the front as they have been all season by the outstanding play of Kuany Kuany who finished with 20 points and 14 rebounds. Michael Harper provided amply support with 19 points of his own while big Matt McCarthy finished with a 12 point-12 rebound double double.

This win will hold special significance for Eric and his team, coming against the Cobras who knocked them out of finals last season in a thrilling contest.

A few of the Falcons players will soon head back to the USA to continue their College careers, while others will stay in Melbourne enjoying a well earned rest before turning their attention to the 2015 pre season.
