Falcons Wrap - Big V Round 3

The Falcons Big V program enjoyed its first unbeaten weekend across the board in Round Three.

It started on Saturday Night when the Youth Women hosted the Hume City Broncos. It looked an evenly matched affair heading in, but Marli Kernich-Drew blew that out of the water with a career defining performance of 24 points and 14 rebounds. The win ended a short but sharp two game skid for the girls, which is sure to inject some confidence into this young group.

At the same time, in another part of the country, Werribee to be exact, the State Championship Men racked up an impressive 107 points to defeat the Devils. All the usual suspects were at it again, while the Devils managed 93 points of their own, the Falcons backed themselves to win the shootout and they did.

Backing up the next day against the Wildcats, the Falcons shook off a slow start to put Eltham away in the second half. It was a dominant scoring duo in the form of Ivan Platenik and Brad Kelleher which led the Falcons in front of a good home crowd.

Before the Men did their work, the Championship Women enjoyed a dominant display against a young Melbourne Tigers side. Tegan Cunningham put up a fairly ridiculous 38 points, to go along with 14 rebounds lead a Falcons line up where everyone played good minutes and contributed to a rich scoring spread.

Wrapping up the weekend, the Youth Men broke the duck against the Hawthorn Magic at Hawthorn on Sunday Afternoon. After a series of close losses, the Falcons didn’t let this one get away, on the back of a monster effort from Matt McCarthy. With the first win on the board, the Falcons will aim to put together a nice run and work their way back up the table.

It is a relatively quiet weekend at the Falcon Nest coming up, with the Youth Women playing the lone home game on Saturday Night. You can hop in the old Kingswood and head around the city to catch our other teams at venues such as Warrandyte, Whittlesea, MSAC and Diamond Valley.
