Gordon On Board

The final piece of the Waverley Falcons Big V Coaching line up for 2014 has been put in place with the announcement that Brendon Gordon will coach the Victorian Youth Championship Women.

Brendon's rise through the coaching ranks at Waverley has been nothing short of impressive. After putting his hand up to coach in late 2009, Brendon worked in tandem with WBA Stadium Manager Shane Palmer as Coach of the Under 14.2 Girls team. Once the coaching bug had bitten, there was no going back.

Since then Brendon has coached Under 12 and Under 16 girls, but made his biggest impact in the age group where it all started. After winning the East 1 Grand Final from third place with a full bottom age group in 2012, Brendon took the 14.1 Girls this year to VC, the first coach to do so since Cassandra Benavides did it 8 years ago. If that wasn't enough, the girls won their way through to the top 10 for the second half of the year, and took home the A Grade Grand Final at the Nunawading Tournament.

In addition to his achievements at the Junior level, Brendon has also plied his trade as an Assistant Coach to Elias Palioyiannis in the State Championship Women for the last two years. Brendon's contribution has been significant in a period of great change for the Falcons Women's program.

With a methodical, deliberate approach, and an appetite for success, Brendon is a great signing for the Falcons to continue the exceptional work done by Steph Groom with this team after the last couple of years.

It is great to see a home grown coach excel through the ranks the way Brendon has, promoting the capacity not only for player development, but also coach development, within the Falcons program.

In more good news for the Falcons, the State Championship Men have retained the signatures of several key players for next season. Sedale Threatt Jnr., Ivan Platenik, Bread Kelleher, Chris Arkell, Tom Boyle, Simon Blennerhassett and Marc Goodwin will all be back in Green and Gold in 2014.
