Falcons Re-Sign Coaches

The Waverley Falcons Big V program is shaping up for 2014, with the re-signing of three coaches from the very successful 2013 campaign.

State Championship Men’s coach Andy Sherwell will take the reins once again after guiding the team to game three of the Semi-Final series, going down in a close one to eventual champions Corio Bay. General Manager Mike Bullock believes the signing should give Falcons fans plenty to be excited about “Waverley were thrilled with Andy as our Coach as he is very good at what he does and well respected by our playing group.”
Junior Boys Coaching Director Eric Minerve will be in charge of the Victorian Youth Championship Men for the second season, after the team got within one game of the Grand Final this season.
Rounding out the trio of signings is Championship Women’s Coach Elias Palioyiannis, who steered the team to their first finals berth since the dramatic reshuffling of the program at the end of 2011. The rapid improvement of the squad continues to impress the Waverley faithful. “After only winning four games in 2012 with our very young squad, we made finals in 2013 which is a tremendous effort” said Bullock.
Palioyiannis will also continue to oversee the Junior Girls program in his role as Junior Girls Coaching Director.
The re-signings are a testament to the value of continuity in a program where three out of the four teams made finals appearances this season, and speak of a sense of hunger to push one step further in 2014.
