Brave Falcons Bow Out

The Falcons Big V Men and Women fought the good fight over the weekend but ultimately both fell short of a Grand Final spot in their respective competitions on the weekend.

The Men faced the tough task of defeating the Corio Bay Stingrays twice in two days. On Saturday Night the game was neck and neck for three and a half quarters, however the Falcons were sublime down the stretch, getting key buckets at all the right times. What was a nail biter quickly turned into a rout as the Falcons cruised to victory in front of a massive home crowd.

Sunday afternoon saw a massive crowd return to the Falcon Nest and it was again a close game with the Stingrays maintaining a small lead throughout most of the contest. The fourth quarter would again decide the fate of these two teams and this time it was the Stingrays who were able to grind out the win and book a Grand Final spot.

The Falcons women hit Ringwood on Saturday Night also facing a 0-1 deficit in the best of three series. The Falcons enjoyed an enterprising start behind the good work of Bridgitte Ardossi, however the Hawks showed why they were the minor premiers, with some exceptional shooting to push them to a lead they wouldn't give up. The Falcons fought the game out and won the final quarter, but the Hawks had done the work for a spot in the big dance.

These results bring to a close a memorable season for the Falcons Big V teams, where significant ground was made in all areas of the program. Congratulations to the coaches and players for their performances. Special thanks to all teams and players from the Junior Program who helped with Court Duty throughout the season, and to our valuable band of volunteers who help put the games on each week. Our Big V game day manager Andrew Seabrook has once again done a sensational job with running the games each week, as well as kicking off a new Livestream of all games played at Waverley this season with great success.

The Falcons will reload, hit preseason hard once again and look to take another big step forward in 2014.
