The Under 18.2 Girls again headed up the Western Highway to the Ballarat Junior Tournament. It was a quality weekend for the Falcons, making it through to the final game. Coach Mark Sainsbery sent us this quality wrap of the weekend's action:
The Under 18 (2) Girls team ventured to the 42nd Ballarat Junior Basketball Tournament and despite a depleted line-up, played solidly to reach the Grand Final. Although playing their hearts out, the girls succumbed to Castlemaine 25 – 28 to claim the Silver Medal.
The team opened up with an emphatic 50 – 20 win over Bacchus Marsh (1) on the back of an outstanding perimeter shooting game from Holly Sainsbery, Daniella Catanese and Lauren Mitchell.
Game 2 saw another solid victory, this time against Westernport (1) winning by 16 points. Sunday saw the team go down to the eventual Champions, Castlemaine (1) by 16 points before bouncing back with a 6 point win over Woodend (1).
Monday morning saw a must win game against Collingwood (1) to find out who would move through to the Grand Final against Castlemaine and the team did a super job defensively to claim a fighting 6 point win after being that many down early in the second half.
On the back of another solid game from Sami Stewart who worked hard all weekend, we nearly snuck over the line in the Gold Medal Game against Castlemaine (1). Despite a busy weekend with a small roster, I was impressed with the endeavour of the team and they certainly made the country girls work hard for their victory.
Well done to all girls for their hard work over the weekend.

The Waverley (2) Team consisted of Adriana Catanese, Daniella Catanese, Sarah Gordon, Lauren Mitchell, Ellen Parry, Holly Sainsbery and Sami Stewart. It was also great to have injured Falcons Tamara Ludekens, Demi Kapes and Alex Murfet support the team over the weekend as well.
