Waverley Falcons broadcasting games online
FORGET the Big V; the Waverley Falcons are going worldwide.
Since the first round of the state championship season, the club has been broadcasting its games live online, and it’s drawn in views from all over the planet.
The web-stream has been accessed by basketball fans in the US, UK, Taiwan, Poland, Sweden, Canada, Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Greece, France, Germany, Denmark, Belgium, Argentina and more.
Even the Kyrgyzstanis have been getting in on the Falcons’ action.
Waverley Basketball general manager Mike Bullock said the initiative had been an immediate success.
“With this, we felt people who couldn’t make it to games, could in fact still get to watch the games if they wanted to,’’ he said.
“We thought it’d be good for our association to be able to see games on the internet.
“It’s an initiative to build spectators, to come along to games but also to make it available to those who can’t.’’
The Falcons were already filming their Big V state championship games, as required by the league, before game day manager Andrew Seabrook decided the next step would be to broadcast them.
A much-valued volunteer at Waverley, and the association’s IT go-to man, Seabrook did the legwork to set up the new system.
He found camera men and women from wherever he could, enlisting junior players, parents, and even students from Box Hill TAFE.
Seabrook said it took a team effort to get the games to air.
``We have 10-15 people all doing stuff each match day. That’s the organisation of it,’’ he said.
“You can see the spread of countries that are looking at it, which is fantastic.
“We’ve had people watching online who’ve decided to turn around and come into the stadium, which has been fantastic.’’
Falcons TV can be accessed at their streaming website.
