The Waverley Falcons Under 18 Boys and Girls teams enjoyed successful weekends at the National Junior Classic at Dandenong Stadium.
The Classic features the best junior teams from Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Canberra. The Falcons teams qualified by finishing in the top four in the respective pools of Victorian Championship at the half way point of the season.
The boys team, coached by Eric Minerve, had a fantastic win over Knox the claim the bronze medal, the highest place of any Victorian team in Under 18 Boys. The team had good wins against Forestville, Dandenong and Melbourne earlier in the weekend. The only two losses the team had were against the two Grand Finalists, Sydney and Sturt.
The girls, coached by Elias Palioyiannis, also had early success and finished on top of their pool after the round robin stage. The girls continued to battle hard against the country's top teams to secure an eigth place finish. This was a fantastic effort for a team with just three top age players.
Meanwhile, Falcons teams also experienced success at the Nunawading tournament, including the 18 (3) boys (pictured above) who convincingly won their Grand Final against a team who had previously beaten them earlier in the weekend.
