Senior Domestic Competition Restructure

This Winter Season the Waverley Basketball Association is changing the format of its Senior Domestic competitions.

All Senior Domestic Competitions will now be divided into ‘Sections’ rather than grades, with sections carrying a set number of teams. This change has been made in order to cater for the record number of entries that were received for the Winter Season as well as standardising our competition structures into the future.

Each fixture used to have varying numbers of teams ranging from as few as six to as many as 12, and season to season things would be manipulated as we go with teams entering not knowing what to expect until fixtures were released.

With our new format, we have a standard 7 teams per fixture (in some cases sections will have 9 teams) with very fair and even schedules. Many teams request not playing the 6.30pm and 10.15pm times. With three scheduled times out of six, this means if you have a late then you won’t have an early and vice versa.

While making this change, we have attempted to honour as many grading requests as possible, however in some cases with the numbers of teams required in each section, this has been quite difficult. Just as in any other season, all teams’ performances will be reviewed during and after the grading rounds, and changes will be made where necessary.

The court plans for each nightly competition are available below, these schedules will be reversed for the Summer 2012-13 season, so if your team has a 10:15pm timeslot this season, it is unlikely you will get one next season if your team remains in the same section.

Each team will be given approximately the same number of games in each timeslot, taking into account various requests which have been considered where possible.

This change brings WBA into line with most other Senior Domestic competitions in Victoria and will ensure the Competition remains fair, inclusive and enjoyable moving into the future.
