Falcons Big V Round Three

The Falcons Men have touched down.

It was a weekend where both Falcons Mens teams set down their intentions pretty clearly, with two wins in the Saturday Night Double Header at Sherbrooke. The Youth Men weren't finished either, comprehensively putting away Bulleen on Sunday afternoon.

The women did not have the same luck, with the Championship side falling short against Sherbrooke in a dramatic finish, and the Youth Women being overrun by Bulleen late in the game on Sunday.

Saturday Night was a big night for the Falcons, the Youth Men opened preceedings at Belgrave Heights Christian School with a solid win over the Suns. Michael Dow and Sean Stewart were both dynamite from downtown as the Falcons cruised to a double digits win. The Championship Men endured a tough opening three quarters against the Suns, their opponents in last year's Semi Final. The fourth quarter however belonged to the Falcons, who went on to win by 15. Ivan Platenik showed his worth, dropping 28 points and 14 rebounds in his first game of the season, while Bennie Lewis again saturated the highlight reel with some upstairs shananigans.

The Falcons and Suns women took to the court a the Falcon nest on Saturday Night, and the Falcons looked superb early, leading by as many as 18 during the third quarter with Caitlin Hindle once again leading the scoring. The Suns would not go away however, reducing the margin on the back of some hot shooting. For the first time this season, it all came down to the final play, with the Suns nailing a prime time dagger from beyond the arc to steal the lead. The Falcons had a last ditch attempt to save the game however it was not to be on this night, a heartbreaking loss for a young team who continue to show they belong at the Championship level.

Sunday afternoon saw the Youth teams converge on the nest for a double header with the Bulleen Boomers. The women opened the day, and for much of the game looked on pace to score their first win of the season. The Boomers hung tough however, securing the lead during the fourth quarter and not surrendering it down the stretch. The loss spoilt a career night for young guard Melanie Ioannidis, who finished with 20 points.

The Youth Men finished the weekend with a clinical dismantling of the Boomers. The Falcons were on top from start to finish, shaing the load as they stitched up a sound victory, giving them two wins from two on the weekend.

The Falcons teams now enjoy a weekend off over Easter, and will no doubt look to continue their good form after the break.
