The Falcons endured a tough weekend of sorts in Round Two of the Big V Season. The women travelled to Eltham on Saturday Night for a double header with the Wildcats, with both teams hanging tough before eventually relenting. The Youth Men travelled to Werribee on Saturday Night and smoked the devils, before returning home on Sunday to face the Melbourne Tigers, going down narrowly. The Championship Men were also at home on Sunday, falling short to Eltham.
The Youth Women stuck with Eltham in the first quarter, before giving up a lead at half time which they were unable to reel in after the break, eventually going down by 22 points. Tahlia Higgs was impressive with a double double, while the Falcons did a much better job looking after the ball, nearly halving their turnover count from the week before.
The Championship Women have had a tough introduction to the top level, taking on their second highly touted opponent in as many weeks. While the Wildcats got the win, there were some encouraging signs for the Falcons as outside assasins Caitlin Hindle and Claire Landby found their range from the perimitre. This perimetre scoring threat will make the team even tougher to guard as their running game already gives opposition teams headaches.
Entering a tough two-game weekend, the Youth Men travelled to Werribee with a no-nonsense attitude and made short work of the nerly promoted Devils. A balanced attack saw the Falcons run riot as they smashed the Devils 111-54. Fresh from that performance they took on last year's Runners Up the Melbourne Tigers on Sunday. In a tough game the Falcons started slow before falling short in the final tally by 20.
The Championship Men capped off the weekend with a rematch of last season's Grand Final. The result this time was a win to the Wildcats, but Falcons fans got their first look at new recruit Bennie Lewis, and it was a good first impression with Lewis top scoring for the Falcons with 17 points.
