Youth League Mens SEVENTH Win in a Row

Waverley 103 dft Coburg 63

WAVERLEY racked up their sixth straight win on Saturday night with a convincing 40 point thrashing of the Coburg Giants, 103-63 at Coburg Basketball Stadium.
The Falcons, who remain one of the three title favourites next to Bendigo and Sherbrooke, seem to finding form at the right end of the season. Game MVP Brad Kelleher, who has been stellar of late, again notched up some impressive numbers, scoring 24 points and dishing out five assists.
For the Giants, Ashley Bunn played strong in defeat scoring 19 points to lead all Coburg players. At five wins and 10 losses this season, it seems Coburg’s focus now shifts to developing young players and shaking up the top four.

Waverley 76 dft Latrobe City 56

FOR MOST of the season the Latrobe City Energy’s main weapon has been their ability to pile on the points. On Sunday, with that in mind, Waverley made a point of showing up on defence and restricted one of the competition’s most potent offences to just 56 points. Scoring 76 of their own, the Falcons ran away to a very convincing 20 point home-win over a side they may have to face again come finals.
Dean Neville’s 16 points and 12 boards were enough to sure up Game MVP honours on a bad shooting night for Bradley Kelleher.
For the Energy, this loss can be narrowed down to a failure to convert. Shooting just 21 per cent from the field overall and 18 per cent from three-point land, Latrobe City were never truly in the match and failed to hold on as the Falcons applied the clamps in the second half.
The win for the Falcons is their seventh on the trot and sees them in a tie for first place with five rounds remaining.
