YOUTH LEAGUE WOMEN- PRE SEASON TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
An arduous and intense pre season training schedule certainly prepared Waverley's Youth League Women's Team very well for success in the Big V pre season tournament, held over the Labour Day weekend at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
Finishing on top of the ladder after three very convincing wins against Ringwood, Warrandyte and Sunbury, plus a draw against Diamond Valley, the team headed back to MSAC on Monday to stamp it's authority in the finals. And that it did !!!
Whilst meeting a more settled and determined Ringwood this time round in the Semi Final, Waverley lifted its intensity another notch to secure a spot in the grand final.
Last season's champions, Diamond Valley, beat Hawthorn to secure the other spot, and set itself up for another dour and tight battle against Waverley. Waverley's depth and fitness however, proved too much for a tired and battle weary Diamond Valley, clinching the championship with a resounding 74 to 32 victory.
Making his Big V coaching debut this season, Elias Palioyiannnis, and his assistant Steph Groom, are looking forward to what should be an exciting season for his young charges, who tip off this Saturday 19th March at 8pm against Hume City, up at Waverley stadium.
