Waverley 108 defeated Sherbrooke 78
Frustrated from their loss to Bulleen the night before the Falcons decided early this was not going to happen again- racing out to a 31-11 lead over the Sherbrooke Suns in their Sunday afternoon clash. Sherbrooke to their credit was competitive in the remaining 3 quarters but the damage was too far done. The Falcons had 6 players in double figures in one of their better team performances for the season, led again by the talented Ivan Platenik whose 24 points and 11 boards along with his big outing the night before showed why he is one of the strongest players in State Championship. For the Suns Bryan Moore had 18 in the loss to the Falcons. Waverley is secured in 3rd position and this is the kind of form they will want to play in the last two rounds to ensure they are a chance at victory come finals time.
State Championship Women
Waverley 84 defeated Bulleen 28
No, the score is not a misprint. In the midst of a form slump, Waverley came out with a thing or two to prove, dealing the second placed Bulleen a comprehensive thumping. Laura Thomas again displayed her all-star form nailing 20 points, 13 boards, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Suzi porter’s 17 points were also handy. No Boomers made it to double figures, in fact, they only cracked the double in one of their quarters. On a double weekend, did they leave a little too much in the tank?
