Diamond Valley 69 defeated Waverley 56
An upset was on the cards in State Championship Women as the Diamond Valley Eagles had an away win over 2009 runner-up Waverley Falcons on Saturday night. Diamond Valley, desperate for a play-off birth in 2010 started the better of the two sides, and aided by a dreadful first period of shooting at only 22% from the field from the Falcons, raced out to an early lead. It was a tight contest for most of the night but it was the Eagles ability to push the lead out by a few points every period saw them come away with a handy 13 point win. New recruit Sally Laing was impressive on debut for the Eagles with 14 points including 2 of her trade mark 3-pointers and 7 boards. Laura Thomas was the best for the home side with 17 points and 9 boards but the night belonged to Diamond Valley.
