Waverley Championship Men take on 1st and 3rd place

Melbourne 108 dft Waverley 98
IT WAS billed as game of the week and was played out to be just that. With 36 lead changes, spectators at the Veneto Club were treated to a spectacular top-end clash. Daniel Johnson was again in superb form, hitting a stellar 33 points and puling in 12 boards to spur Melbourne home for the win. He was given great support from Adrien Sturt (30 points, nine boards) and Matt O’Hea (24 points, 12 boards). The match was neck and neck until the final quarter where the Falcons found themselves in foul trouble leaving the Tigers to capitalise and take the match by 10 points. Brad Hill was in form for Waverley managing 21 points, while teammate Ivan Platenik was good for 19 points. Melbourne assistant coach Ian Stacker said he was thrilled to see his young side get up.
“It was pleasing to see our young players concentrate and do what was necessary to win the game,” Stacker said.

IT WAS the Rangers’ big men (Vince Inglima 31 points Brent Hobba 21 points) which was the difference. A physical game was played out, with only two points separating the two teams at the major break. The angers found a little something in the second held and pushed out to a eight point lead in the third term. They powered on to secure a 20 point buffer by full time.
