GAME OF THE ROUND

Melbourne Tigers 47 dft. By Waverley Falcons 70

The Falcons took a handy advantage through the first two quarters and used an even team performance to propel themselves to a strong 23 point victory over the Tigers. Whereas the last matchup between these two teams was a close affair at half time, the Falcons put forward another staunch defensive effort in the first half to take a 34-21 lead into half time, and they lifted the intensity on offence in the third quarter to have the match all but wrapped up by the final break.

The Tigers managed just 25 per cent shooting from the field and missed 12 of their 20 free throws. The Falcons took a 54-28 advantage on the rebounds, negating any affect their 24 turnovers could have had. Much of the Falcons scoring came from the perimeter, as they hit eight of their 21 three point attempts, while the Tigers managed just five of their 23 tries from long range.

While both teams worked hard in the paint, the Falcons scoring advantage came from the perimeter. Claire Landby provided a huge spark, going six for seven from the field including all three of her three point attempts for a team high 15 points in just 16 minutes. Caitlin Hindle contributed 13 points while the Higgs sisters had 10 points each.

Isabella Brancasitano was her usual dangerous self for the Tigers with a game high 16 points. Tanja Stevanovic was also good with 12 points, however an undermanned Tigers outfit was not able to keep up with the Falcons, and find consistent avenues to score.

Game MVP: Caitlin Hindle (Waverley)
