The Waverley Falcons State Championship Men are 2017 Runners Up after going down in a nailbiting Game 2 at Ringwood on Saturday Night.
Despite a gallant effort, it looked as though the Hawks had finally done enough to put the Falcons away, opening up a six point lead with just seconds left in the game. The Falcons had one last big effort in them, knocking down a big three before affecting a steal on the ensuing inbounds pass and converting the quick lay up to bring the margin back to one point in just five seconds.
After the Hawks then went one for two from the line the Falcons had a shot for a mircale win and it was only barely off, mere millimetres seperating the Falcons from forcing a Game 3, but instead watching the Hawks celebrate.
It was an abrubt end to an otherwise successful season which saw the Falcons make the Grand Final for the first time since 2011. Things will wind down briefly for the Falcons Big V program before the players gear up for another big pre-season in a month or two.
