The Falcons State Championship Men have swept the Knox Raiders in thier best-of-three semi-final to advance to the Grand Final...against who else but the Ringwood Hawks.
The history between these clubs is well documented in both men and women, and this year's Grand Final is sure to add another chapter to the storied rivalry.
The Falcons proved to strong for a Knox team who could not match the Falcons offensively without their big man Matt Hodgson, in Beirut with the Boomers at the Asia Cup. The Falcons took full advantage, looking every bit the Grand Final contender behind big performances from Desmond Simmons and Chris Arkell, with Michael Harper turning up the screws defensively.
Sunday's Game 1 will be the final Falcons home game of the year, and the home team will be desperate to get off to a good start. Winning two games on the road is near impossible at the top level, so a win at home is crucial. The Hawks however have been the pacesetter in Big V Championship Men for the best part of a decade, multiple championships and Grand Final appearances a testiment to their consistency. It's going to be a real test, and an intense contest the likes of which are rarely seen at the state level.
Get down to the Falcons Nest this Sunday as the Falcons look to protect their home court against the Ringwood Hawks. It's Grand Final game 1, it doesn't get a whole lot bigger than this.
