Crowds flock to WBA Grand Finals

It was a massive weekend at Waverley with an amazing 46 Junior Grand Finals played over two days. The fun continues on Tuesday wityh another six Grand Finals still to be contested.

Saturday was arguably the biggest day of Grand Finals in Waverley's history, with 40 premierships decided over 10 insane hours of non-stop basketball action. The atmopshere around the stadium was electric, especially when we discovered there were some 'Earth Wind and Fire' songs on the DJ laptop.

It was a great day at the stadium, a credit to all our teams, coaches, families and spectators. Special thanks have to go out to a number of people who put in big hours on the day, including (but certainly not limited to) Shane Pamer and his presentation crew of Alex Martin and Goca Ivanovich; Leila for her work on the door, the referees, supervisors and RDOs, and our canteen and cleaning crew.

The action on the court however was the highlight. 23 games were decided by ten points or less and 11 lower ranked teams go up for upset wins. Nine different clubs celebrated premierships on the day.

Sunday was another exciting, although slightly more boutique afternoon of Grand Finals. That didn't stop the crowd from coming out in droves to watch the action. As a rough estimate I would say there were slightly more people here than at the Grand Prix. The games were again intense as we know they will be again on Tuesday.
