Youth Teams go down but Champ teams are champs

The Falcons Victorian Youth Championship teams got off to a tough start to the season on the weekend at the opening round festival of games, but the Championship teams logged wins in the pre-season tournament.

The Youth Women got the early shift on Sunday, taking on perennial finalists Bulleen to start the season right in the deep end. An indsustrial Falcons side competed hard for three quarters before the Boomers' class shone through in the fourth. The 27 point margin not really flattering to the Falcons who trailed by just seven at the final change, but positive signs moving forward as they prepare to head down to Geelong this week. Mikaela Miller led the way for the Falcons with 13 points.

Following that game the Youth Men took to the Volleyball court (which has been done up a bit with brand new rings and backboards by the way) to face the new-to-the-leahue Blackburn Vikings. The Vikings showed why they were so dominant in the next league down last season and went about a business-like 25 point win. For the Falcons, they will be opening to improve on their 30% shooting, but will be happy with giving up just nine turnovers for the game. Matt Scammell was the most effective from the field on a tough shooting day, finishing with 10 points.

Meanwhile, the Senior Championship teams had their last hit-outs before the season commences this weekend, and it was a successful weekend all around. Both the Men and Women registered wins over a mix of Championship, Division 1 and Junior State teams. The weekend gives plenty of reason for confidence ahead of an exciting first weekend where both teams travel to Ringwood for a Double Header against the old rivals.
