Championship Womens Double Weekend

Waverley Falcons Championship Women had a tough weekend of games both Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, with Game MVP honors to Kathleen MacLeod for both matches, and the HOPS Player of the Week award for round 8 as well.

Dandenong Rangers 58 dft Waverley Falcons 44
THE tiresome efforts of last week’s player of the round Kathleen MacLeod (29 points) were not enough to get the home side over the line in round eight’s game of the week. Both sides showed determination, with a hard fought first half resulting in Waverley holding onto a one point lead at the major break. It was from here the Rangers kicked into gear, putting a 14-point buffer in between them and their opponents by the final buzzer. Faith Probst (15 points), Melissa Colcott (14 points) and Demelza Waixel (10 points) were a powerful trio for the visitors, with the Rangers using the paint to their advantage to snag 42, to the Falcon’s 16 points from inside. Dandenong assistant coach John Goodman credited Waverley for their efforts.
“The score-line does not truly reflect how tough the encounter was,’’ Goodman said.
