U/14-3 Boys Grand Final

14.3 Boys Grand Final

Waverley3 vs Ringwood2
Sunday 14th September, 12.40pm at Nunawading Crt 1

Coaches Comments:
The Falcons Under 14.3 boys have had a fantastic year developing into a disciplined unit playing an exciting style of basketball. With one tournament premiership and two runners-up trophies already to their names, the boys will play in the East 2 Division 1 Grand Final on Sunday afternoon after finishing the regular season on top of the ladder with an impressive 15-2-1 record.

This bottom age team is capable of anything on the day and have shown themselves able to step up on big occasion games; and a grand final appearance gives them yet another opportunity to play ‘Falcons’ basketball.

Well done boys – we are all proud of your efforts and commitment to this team.

Go Falcons!
Mike Rogan
Head Coach

Grand Final Game This Sunday!
There is an adreneline rush when an elite sportsman begins a match which tests his skills and his ability; there is an added excitement when a talented team stands united after twelve months of outstanding coaching, disciplined effort and determination to face the ultimate test: a Grand Final game!

And so it will be for the mighty U-14.3 team this Sunday at 12:40pm when they take to the Nunawading courts in the 2008 Grand Final, playing Ringwood2.  The boys have enjoyed a terrific season: 18 games/ 15 wins/ one draw; on three occasions they have played the Ringwood 2 team: round 3, winning 34 to 28; round 12, winning 27 to 20 and two weeks ago in the semi-final, winning 36 to 25.

With each winning margin slightly better than the one before, it could be easy to be lulled into a false sense of confidence, but the U-14.3 team knows that the Ringwood 2 talls are mighty tall and strong and determined opponents!

The semi-final two weeks ago provided many challenges:
Standing in for Supercoach Mike Rogan (who returns this week from a luxurious holiday in France) was the ever-talented current Tigers Coach, Peter Horne and our wonderful Assistant Coach, Min Simankevicius.  The Ringwood 2 boys gave it all they could in the first half and their Talls were ominous!  The Falcons regrouped to form a more aggressive stance, blocking out the R2 Talls; a keen eyed coaching strategy encouraged the boys to maximise their efforts in offensive spacing to thin out the defense and allow for fast breaks to the basket.

This Sunday, the Ringwood 2 team will be bringing everything they have to the 2008 Grand Final. They will meet a determined and talented U-14.3 Falcons team which has an exceptional mix of solid-yet -agile height,  terrific speed, relentless energy, admirable courage, accuracy that improves with each game and darned-good looks; they will be guided by a very refreshed and determined Coach and enthusiastic (if not often breathless) coaching bench, not to mention the amazing cheer squad!

All the very best for a great game to a great team:

Carter (Pass / shoot / score) Dickinson
Lachlan (Lach-eeee / rebound at all costs) Horne
Mitchell (Mish / Mitch / "my ball... my ball") Horne
Abe (Drive the ball) Kaplandjian

Fraser (Speed of light) Nott
Mitchell (Mitch / "easy lay-up") Pollard
Remo ( Rem-oh / 3 pointer) Simankevicius
Charlie (Chazlie / "Make it happen Charlie") Smith, and
