Massive Weekend at the Nest

With just one round left before our Big V Championship teams head into finals, the Falcons Nest will host the biggest weekend of Basketball for the season so far.

The Falcons Men will be looking to grab a top two spot as they take on the Corio Bay Stingrays at home on Saturday Night. The Stingrays currently sit in second place, one game ahead of the third placed Falcons. The difference between second and third is huge at season's end. The top two teams get a free ride to the preliminary finals, while teams from 3rd to 6th battle it out in elimination finals.

With so much on the line in this game, probably the most important game of the regular season, fans can expect finals intensity Basketball and plenty of elite talent on the floor. The matchup in the paint will be huge as Falcons big guns Ivan Platenik and Chris Cameron do battle against the Corio Bay bigs. Sedale Threatt Jnr will control the point spot with his usual class and flair, while Brad Kelleher and Chris Arkell will spread the floor with their shooting.

If that massive game wasn't enough, Sunday will bring us not one, not two, but three big games at the Nest.

At 11am we have the Special Event, our Under 12 Falcons girls playing an exhibition match in full Big V game conditions, including music, announcements and with special guest coaches, Falcons Big V and WNBL players Tegan Cunningham and Carly Mijovic. The game is part of the 'Girls Got Game' movement, encouraging and celebrating the involvement of girls and women in Basketball at all levels.

Following this we have a State Championship Double Header against the Sherbrooke Suns. The Falcons Women will hit the floor for a 12:30pm tip off and will be looking to bounce back from last week's loss with a strong showing here before finals next week. League leading scorer Carly Mijovic will be leading the way for the energetic Falcons unit with her impressive inside-outside game.

To cap off a big day at the Nest, the State Championship Men will return after their Saturday Night game for one last go-around before finals. This game may be about consolidating their place on the ladder, it may be about going into finals in the best possible form. one thing is for sure, it will be intense.

Get down to the Falcon Nest this weekend for some big time hoops and see some of Victoria's best Basketballers doing what they do best.
