WBA statement - Junior Saturday Competition
04/10/2017

Team entries for the Summer 2017/18 Junior Domestic season have increased beyond typical incremental levels. As a result, we now have more teams that we are able to cater for in our standard Saturday program. The biggest increases were in the Under 8 and Under 14 age groups.

A number of options have been presented to club representatives with a rotation of Under 8 and Under 14 games to Sundays emerging as the preferred option for the summer season.

How the rotation system will work: Teams in Under 8 (Juniors and Girls) and Under 14 (Juniors) will be rotated evenly through Sunday timeslots throughout the season. Each section will be rostered on to play on Sunday in a given week.

Each Under 8 team can expect to play on a Sunday approximately once every three weeks, while Under 14 teams can expect to play on a Sunday approximately once in every six weeks. Teams who nominate to their club that they would prefer Sunday games may be rostered on a Sunday more often.

Benefits of the rotation system: This rotation system will allow for 36 more teams to play each week, drastically reducing the amount of BYEs each team will have during the season, and preventing the need to block entries and turn teams away.

While this is an opportunity for WBA to continue trialling and reviewing different competition models to cater for future competition growth, we continue to work closely with Monash and Stonnington councils to find long term solutions for us to provide basketball opportunities to our members in their local areas.

Please contact your club or the WBA office to find out how you can help us present a compelling case to our local councils for more indoor court space.
