NBL1 & BigV Falcons

Season Opener this Weekend
16/03/2017

The Falcons Big V State Championship Men and Women begin their season this weekend with a massive home double-header against Knox Raiders.

It's a big test for both teams as they start the season, with the Raiders having been right around the top in both the men's and women's competitions last season.

The Falcons had their final tune-ups on the weekend at the Big V tournament and look to be in good touch heading into Round 1. The men in particular had a good weekend, making it to the Grand Final before going down to Nunawading SEABL.

The Raiders played in Big V State Championship for the first time last season, and aquitted themselves very well with both men and women spending time atop the league ladder. Adding some sizzle to the encounter will be the return of big Matt Hodgeson to the Falcons Nest, the Adelaide 36ers centre suiting up for Knox this year after helping the Falcons reach the semi-finals last season.

It will be an absolute ripper having two finals-quality games on offer on the home floor to start the season.

YOUTH TEAMS SPLIT OPENING GAMES

The Victorian Youth Championship got underway on Labour Day Weekend with every team under the one roof.

On Saturday the Falcons VYC Men took on the Hawthorn Magic, and after a promising start, the Falcons held a slight edge into the second quarter. It all ground to a halt unfortunately as the Magic took control of the game and put things beyond doubt in the second half. The Falcons head to Blackburn this week and will hope to go closer to a four quarter effort.

The VYC Women had a better time of it on Sunday as they used a sensational second quarter to get ahead of the Eltham Wildcats. Eltham tried to chip away in the second half however the gap was to much as players from both teams battled foul trouble. Mikaela Miller led the way for the Falcons with Nya Lok having a great contribution off the bench. The girls head to Bendigo this Sunday, always a tough game up there.
