WBA's newest competition tips off
26/09/2016

After some years of planning and consultation, Waverley Basketball embarked on a new chapter on Sunday, September 25, with the first ever game of Under 23 domestic tipping off.

A joint venture between WBA's Junior Domestic clubs and the WBA Senior Competition, the Under 23 competition is hoped to provide a pathway for junior players to move into senior competitions. Junior players will continue to be able to represent their club, or play with friends, in a vibrant and exciting competition which fits into their young lifestyle.

Seven teams have entered into the inaugral season, with aims to grow this in future seasons.

WBA also remains steadfast in its committment to provide an Under 23 Women's competition in coming seasons. Entries will be made available prior to next season, however we strongly encourage anyone interested in entering a team to contact the WBA office at any time.

For those who want to note the history makers from Sunday Night for the record books:

The first ever Under 23 game was between the Ashy Celtics and the Malvern Dolphins, with the Ashy Celtics victorious.

The first ever basket scored in Under 23 competition as Waverley was a two-pointer by Jim MacKay from the Ashy Celtics.

Max Khoury of the Malvern Dolphins knocked down the first three-ball in Under 23s.

The Timberwolves Warriors were the other team to win on the first night, defeating the Solway Storm.
